Romanian player banned for life for tennis match-fixing offense

A Tennis Integrity Unit (why does that make me laugh every time?) banned Alexandru-Daniel Carpen for life. Good ole Romania! I guess there’s bad apples even in the best of the apple trees.

One should not be surprised, however. Says the TSU (had to abbreviate and am still laughing):

“Mr Carpen, 30, achieved a career-high singles ranking of 1,088 in November 2007 and 274 in doubles in 2015.”

A quick search on the ATP website reveals his total, ever, prize money singles and doubles combined was $34,778. It is tough making a living playing minor league tennis.

Alex, best of luck, mate!
